Special Education Teacher, Meeker Elementary School

Special Education Teacher position at Meeker Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year (190-day contract).

About the Role

This licensed Special Education Teacher role focuses on delivering resource services to students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with staff, students, and parents, demonstrating expertise in special education programs, services, and community resources.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement a program of study tailored to individual student needs, interests, and abilities.
• Create and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests.
• Foster a safe and positive environment through effective discipline and classroom management aligned with school and district policies.
• Ensure adequate supervision to safeguard student health, welfare, and safety.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum standards, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
• Utilize instructional methods and materials appropriate for meeting stated objectives and standards.
• Regularly assess student accomplishments and provide progress reports as required.
• Diagnose student learning abilities, seeking assistance from district specialists when needed.
• Counsel with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis.
• Assist administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct; develop and enforce fair classroom behavior rules.
• Plan and supervise assignments for instructional assistants and volunteers, collaborating with department heads.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional standards through instruction and action.
• Respect students' personal spaces throughout the day.
• Implement students' IEP plans while maintaining academic integrity and motivating participation.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside instructional hours when required.
• Collaborate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
• Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
• Participate in co-curricular activities as assigned.
• Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Report student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline issues promptly to appropriate authorities.
• Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Comply with and support school and division regulations and policies.
• Maintain open communication with students and parents regarding academic and behavioral progress.
• Pursue professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, or advanced coursework.
• Perform other duties as assigned by building administrators in accordance with school/district policies.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding student information.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Colorado Teaching License with an endorsement in a related special education field.
• Preferred experience in a related field.
• Bilingual skills preferred.

• Experience or preference for leadership in addressing students' social, emotional, psychological, and academic needs.

• Ability to follow oral and written directions and establish effective working relationships with staff and students.
• Strong visual, auditory, and ambulatory abilities.

Work Environment

• Classroom setting with potential for long periods of sitting and numerous distractions.
• Visual, auditory, and ambulatory acuity are important.
• Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.

Pay

Salary placement on the Certified Salary schedule is based on education and work experience. Certified/licensed employees receive one year of credit for each full year of contractual or work experience, up to a maximum of ten years, including both in-district and out-of-district experience. Verification of outside experience is the responsibility of the employee.
