Special Education Elementary School Teacher

About the role

Garfield Park Academy is seeking a motivated full-time (10-month position) Special Education Elementary School Teacher to work in a small, departmental classroom. Classroom teachers are valued members of special education teams that include teachers, aides, social workers, and therapists. Together, they implement the evidence-based Teaching Family Model to support meaningful social and academic learning and healthy decision-making among students with behavioral challenges and learning issues.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized teaching strategies in accordance with each student’s IEP and individual goals and objectives
• Implement modifications and accommodations in the classroom and in testing/assessment situations
• Collect and interpret data to teach responsively
• Administer periodic assessments to determine present levels of performance
• Participate in school staff meetings and parent meetings
• Clearly and consistently communicate and collaborate with educational team members, school leaders, and parents/guardians

Requirements

• New Jersey Teacher Certification in Elementary Education K–5
• New Jersey Teacher of Students with Disabilities (TOSD) certification is preferred
• One year of teaching experience is preferred
• At least one year of Special Education teaching is preferred
