Special Education Teacher

About the role

The Special Education Teacher (7-12), under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator, provides quality services to special education students, grades 7 through 12. The Special Education Teacher has a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation with general education staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide special instruction and tutorial assistance to special education students in grades 7–12
• Participate in team planning and implementation of student programs
• Consult with general education staff regarding student programs and needs

Requirements

• Students with Disabilities (SWD) 7-12 Certification required
• Valid NYS teaching certificate required
• Minimum of one year of experience in a teaching environment preferred
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred
• State Teacher Certification: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
• State Teacher Certification: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
• State Teacher Certification: Standard Special Teaching preferred
• Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
• Current CPR if applicable
• TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
• Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
• Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice

Pay & Schedule

• $47/hr, ~35 hrs/week
• Schedule: 7:30AM – 3:45PM, Monday – Friday
• 2026-27 School Year, August 31st start date (orientation)
• Location: Newark, NY
