The Role
This position is part of a new academy launch, with hiring aligned to support the upcoming academic year. The Special Education Teacher serves as the primary instructional resource for our Graduation Candidates (GCs), delivering competency-based content, supporting personalized learning, and guiding students toward graduation and post-secondary success.
Key Responsibilities
- Support new student enrollment by engaging in recruitment and outreach efforts.
- Aid in creating Personalized Learning Plans tailored to each student's unique needs and goals.
- Serve as an advisor for assigned students by maintaining open communication and monitoring attendance, academic progress, and overall well-being.
- Plan and deliver subject-specific instruction in both individual and group settings, conducting assessments and analyzing data to inform instructional decisions.
- Provide targeted remediation and enrichment activities for individuals or small groups of students based on their specific needs.
- Contribute to the success of academy initiatives, including data reviews, professional development workshops, and school/community events.
- Collaborate with the student support team to develop personalized learning pathways, behavior improvement plans, and transition strategies, including incentive programs to enhance academic achievement.
- Participate in academy-wide meetings and represent the academy in community events to foster connections and advocate for student success.
What We're Looking For
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
- Licensure: Ohio 6-12 educator’s license with a secondary ESE/Special Education endorsement (REQUIRED)
- Experience: 2+ years of teaching experience (high school preferred)
- Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on inclusivity and collaboration
- Passion: A commitment to supporting at-risk youth and fostering their academic and personal breakthroughs
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in non-traditional or at-risk youth settings
- Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
- Familiarity with behavior intervention strategies and alternative education models
- Experience with competency-based learning, instructional coaching, or project-based education
- Strong comfort with technology in educational settings
