Organizational Position: Reports directly to the Special Education Teacher and Building Principal.
About the role
Provides instructional and/or non-instructional support under the direction of a properly certified teacher.
Responsibilities
- Supports the instructional needs of students with IEPs under the direction of a properly certified Special Education teacher. This instruction can be provided to individual or groups of students in accordance with the student's IEP and must be planned by a properly certified teacher.
- Assists teacher by organizing materials and keeping records.
- Communicates effectively and with sensitivity to students, staff, and parents.
- Deals with all student-related issues and information in a confidential manner.
- Assumes responsibility for maintaining classroom procedures and order when it is necessary.
- Assists children with personal functions, consistent with their physical limitations, i.e. moving from class to class, clothing, feeding, and toileting.
- Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and maintains a positive attitude in working with others.
- Assists children in a variety of settings, as indicated in each Individualized Education Program (i.e. regular classrooms, special education classrooms, cafeteria, gym, field trips, etc.).
- Performs other duties assigned by Supervisor.
Requirements
- An Associate's Degree or Higher, or
- Completed at least two years of postsecondary study, or
- Successful completion of a state or locally developed assessment
Qualifications
- 20 Hours of staff development per year
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift 15-20 lbs
- May be required to lift and/or position students depending on assignment
