MISTAFF is a collaborative effort of the Michigan Association of Intermediate School Administrators, Michigan Association of Superintendents & Administrators, Michigan Association of School Boards, Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals, Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association, and Michigan School Public Relations Association.

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced educational leader to serve as the Principal for our K-12 school community. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to academic excellence, equity, and the social-emotional development of all students. This role requires a visionary leader who can inspire staff, engage families, and foster a positive school culture.

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional leadership to ensure high-quality teaching and learning.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate school improvement plans aligned with district goals.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive school environment.
• Manage school operations, including budget, staffing, and facilities.
• Engage families, community members, and stakeholders in supporting student success.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal education laws, policies, and regulations.
• Supervise, evaluate, and support school staff to maximize professional growth and effectiveness.
• Utilize data to drive decision-making and monitor student progress.

Requirements

• Valid Michigan Administrator Certificate with a School Administrator endorsement (or eligibility for certification).
• Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (e.g., assistant principal, department chair, or instructional coach).
• Demonstrated experience in school leadership, including curriculum development, staff supervision, and budget management.
• Strong knowledge of current educational trends, best practices, and state/federal accountability systems.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field (required).
• Doctorate in Educational Leadership or related field (preferred).
• Experience working in a diverse school community.
• Familiarity with Michigan’s educational landscape and accountability systems.
