Role Mission

The Special Education Co-Teacher position at IDEA is designed for candidates seeking valuable experience in Special Education teaching, challenging work, and opportunities for career advancement.

What We Offer

  • Compensation: Hourly rate ranging from $16.00 to $22.50, paid over a 12-month period.

Qualifications

  • Education: At least 48 college hours required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience: Classroom experience or working with children.

  • Licenses/Certifications: Willingness to pursue a Special Education teaching certification.

  • Knowledge and Skills: Ability to instruct students, manage behavior, organize, communicate, and interact effectively; ability to adapt to various situations; assistance with daily living tasks; support for emotional or behavioral concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of facilitators and classroom teachers.

  • Implement Individual Education Plans and monitor student progress.

  • Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom.

  • Work with other professionals like speech therapists, social workers, occupational and physical therapists.

  • Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and help develop appropriate social skills.

  • Assist with daily living tasks in the Life Skills Unit.

  • May need to assist with school bus rides to accompany students.
