Compensation

$27.63 – $57.15 per hour on the 25–26 salary schedule.

Purpose of the Position

The Bilingual Resource Specialist provides academic, linguistic, and cultural support to English Learners and their families, ensuring equitable access to school programs and services.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and adhere to a weekly schedule of academic and linguistic support based on students’ Individualized Learning Plan (ILP) needs
• Provide academic, linguistic, and cultural support in classrooms in collaboration with teachers and administrators
• Facilitate translation and interpretation for students, families, and staff
• Assist ESL/BRT staff with family outreach, paperwork completion, and service navigation
• Ensure EL records are complete and current; help transition newcomers with social, emotional, and academic support
• Participate in team discussions on academic, transition, graduation, and career planning for ELs
• Contribute to planning ESL/bilingual instructional programs, including culturally relevant materials and resources
• Implement one-on-one and small group lesson plans created by certified staff to reinforce instruction
• Provide support to ELs in core academic instruction and small groups under teacher/ESL/BRT guidance
• Provide interpretation accommodations during testing and facilitate communication during IEP meetings
• Translate school documents and interpret in person, by phone, and at school events
• Assist families in their native language to complete district/school paperwork and applications
• Help students and families navigate U.S. school norms and practices; share cultural insights with staff
• Explain the district Behavior Education Plan to students and families
• Provide social/emotional support for ELs and connect families to district and community resources
• Facilitate communication between staff and outside agencies regarding student services

Minimum Qualifications

• Must pass MMSD reading, writing, and oral proficiency assessment in the target language and English

Working Conditions

• May require travel within the district and to off-site meetings
• May include evenings, nights, and some weekends
• School-based positions are required to be in-person unless otherwise directed by the building principal

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in safe, comfortable environments with minimal exposure to environmental risks
• Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; walking, sitting, stooping, or reaching as needed
• Manual dexterity for office equipment; may require being stationary for extended periods
• Ability to work in varied indoor and outdoor environments, including inclement weather and spaces without air conditioning
