Spacecraft Assembly Technician
About the role
The Space Systems Engineering group at HawkEye 360 is seeking a Spacecraft Assembly Technician to join our team. This position involves performing assembly and integration of flight hardware, interpreting engineering schematics, conducting inspections, managing inventory, and documenting work processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform assembly and integration of flight hardware at all stages of spacecraft development from subsystems up through the full payload and spacecraft bus
- Interpret engineering schematics or drawings to troubleshoot issues that may arise
- Inspect electronics, document hardware with photographs, and track flight hardware status
- Procure and coordinate shipment of parts, circuit boards, enclosures, and harness assemblies
- Manage electronic and mechanical lab inventory while driving improvements to systems for greater efficiency and organization
- Lay out and assemble electronic ground support equipment (EGSE) that will be used to test flight hardware in our lab
- Document work through notes within the procedures and photographs of each step performed
- Work independently to complete given assignments within the schedule given and ask questions about when more information is needed or not all details are given
- Quickly communicate problems or questions as they occur to other members of the team
- Work comfortably in a cleanroom environment and around ESD-sensitive hardware
- Occasionally travel for launch site integration and testing campaigns as needed
Qualifications
- Minimum of a high school diploma
- 2 years of hardware/electronics assembly experience or equivalent education and training
- Hands-on experience with aerospace hardware
- Familiarity working with wire harnesses (wire stripping, crimping, pinning, routing, continuity testing, etc…)
- Understanding of electronics lab environments including ESD mitigation and cleanroom protocols
- Basic hand tool knowledge as well as familiarization with some power tools
- An ability to react to changing priorities as directed, sometimes daily
- A good attitude, team-oriented spirit, and dedication to getting the job done
Desirable
- Hands-on experience with spacecraft (payload, bus, subsystems, etc…) hardware
- Experience working with electrical harnesses and an understanding of the different kinds of connectors used within the aerospace industry
- Experience soldering PCB assemblies
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
- Experience with Linux operating system and running commands within the terminal application
- A curious outlook – willingness to learn new things and solutions to fit the problem
Benefits
We offer a competitive base salary plus an annual performance bonus and benefits. We consider various factors when determining salary offers, including candidate's work experience, education, training & skills, as well as market and business considerations. The salary range for this position is $70,000—$115,000 USD.
