About the role
Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Space Utilization Planner, supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment contract at Arnold Air Force Base in Tennessee. The person in this role will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for a key role in supporting national defense through ground testing of air and space systems the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with AF Facility Space Planning Visit project sites to conduct physical field measurements and document existing structural conditions
- Analyze interior spaces to maximize functionality, circulation, and user flow
- Apply industry standards for furniture clearances, accessibility (Americans with Disabilities Act), and local building codes
- Draft detailed floor plans, furniture layouts, elevations, millwork, and electrical/lighting configurations
- Coverage closely with interior designers, architects, and project managers to ensure design integrity is maintained throughout the technical drafting phase
- Format and compile final drawing sets for client presentations, contractor bidding, and permitting
- Convert physical site dimensions into accurate "As-Built" digital drawings
- Create Reflected Ceiling Plans (RCPs) and detailed finish schedules
Requirements
- Technical certification in a relevant field (ex. Drafting, ADDA, etc)
- 2 years’ professional drafting or interior design experience in architecture, interior design, or design-build firm
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network
Qualifications
- S. Degree in Interior Design, Drafting, Architecture, or a related technical field
- 3 years of professional drafting or interior design experience in architecture, interior design, or design build firm with experience using AutoCAD (2D) and/or Revit
- Technical Drawing Standards: Deep understanding of architectural drafting conventions, line weights, dimensioning, and scale
- Code Compliance: Familiarity with residential/commercial building codes, life safety guidelines, and ADA requirements
- Problem-Solving: Ability to resolve spatial conflicts (e.g., HVAC ducting vs. ceiling heights or door swings)
- Time Management: Capable of managing drafting timelines across multiple active projects simultaneously
- Demonstrated Work: A strong portfolio that demonstrates clean CAD standards, organized layers, and cohesive interior drafting packages
Skills
The ideal candidate has an expert eye for spatial flow, furniture clearance, and understands applicable accessibility standards, local building codes, and technical drafting standards.
