About the role
The Registered Nurse leads the health care team, providing professional nursing care according to established standards, policies, and procedures. The role requires adherence to Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, demonstrating leadership, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Delegates tasks appropriately and demonstrates accountability.
- Understands and supports team members' scopes of practice and escalates issues as necessary.
- Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds them accountable for performance.
- Collaborates with other departments to assist in resolving member problems.
- Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
- Ensures patient safety, including medication administration, patient falls, decubitus prevention, and infection control.
- Maintains patient comfort and addresses anxieties, fears, or concerns regarding patient conditions, treatments, or discharges.
- Ensures patients understand medication purposes, side effects, and administration instructions.
- Documents accurately and efficiently using computer systems for optimal patient care.
- Discusses patient findings and progress with physicians and other healthcare team members.
- Participates in departmental performance improvement activities.
- Adheres to workplace safety principles and practices.
- Provides courteous, respectful, and compassionate care to patients and families.
- Supports a collaborative Labor-Management Partnership environment through unit-based teams.
- Manages work to minimize overtime usage and identifies systems for simplification or correction.
Requirements
- 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in Level III NICU or successful completion of KP Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) course within the past 12 months.
- Registered Nurse License (California).
- Basic Life Support.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
- May be expected to cross-train to at least one other Perinatal area.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in leadership, collaboration, flexibility, social consciousness, and trustworthiness.
- Experience in a Level III NICU or Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) setting.
- Knowledge of the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Ability to document accurately and efficiently using computer systems.
- Compliance with regulatory requirements and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
