Job Summary

The Registered Nurse leads the health care team, providing professional nursing care according to established standards, policies, and procedures. Demonstrating performance consistent with the Medical Center Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan.

About the Role

Provides leadership, delegates tasks, and demonstrates accountability. Upholds policies and principles, supports team members, and collaborates with other departments. Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, policies, and standards of practice.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a leader of the health care team; delegates tasks appropriately and demonstrates accountability.
  • Understands and adheres to the scope of practice and escalates issues as necessary.
  • Champions new ideas, leads the change process, and participates in problem identification and resolution.
  • Mentors, orients, and coaches others in unit-specific operations and patient care activities.
  • Shares responsibility and authority with subordinates and holds them accountable for performance.
  • Collaborates with other departments to assist in member problem resolution.
  • Prioritizes, delegates, and supervises work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
  • Complies with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Develops and/or contributes to the individualized plan of care that reflects assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the outcomes of that plan.
  • Maintains and monitors the patient’s progress based on the plan, revising it on an ongoing basis based on patient condition and evaluation of progress.
  • Ensures care meets standards of practice, discharges patients safely, and educates patients and families about discharge instructions.
  • Monitors patient safety related to medications and procedures, ensuring optimal pain control and patient comfort.
  • Communicates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to discuss patient findings and progress.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement activities, including planning, measuring/monitoring, assessing, and improving.
  • Adheres to LMP Workplace Safety principles and practices, applies standard precautions, and maintains a safe environment.
  • Practices customer service standards, answers call lights, alarms, and patient requests promptly, and ensures patient confidentiality.
  • Treats families of patients with courtesy, respect, kindness, and compassion, and provides an optimal patient care experience.
  • Acts as a resource, preceptor, and mentor to new employees, registry, students, and other team members.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings, in-services, and staff meetings as required, actively participates in other departmental professional development.
  • Organizes work to minimize the use of overtime, identifies and assists in systems improvement, and utilizes payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential.

Requirements

  • 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in L & D, or successful completion of a KP L&D course (which includes basic fetal monitoring and NRP) or approved equivalent within prior 12 months.
  • Registered Nurse License (California).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program.
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate required at hire OR Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate within 12 months of hire AND Kaiser PPSP for Nurses - Fetal Assessment Monitoring Certification required at hire.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
  • May be expected to cross-train to at least 1 other Perinatal area.
  • Ability to scrub and circulate as required.

Qualifications

  • Basic Qualifications: 1-year recent (within the last 3 years) full-time equivalent experience in L & D, or successful completion of a KP L&D course (which includes basic fetal monitoring and NRP) or approved equivalent within prior 12 months.

  • Licenses, Certifications, Registrations: Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate required at hire OR Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate within 12 months of hire AND Kaiser PPSP for Nurses - Fetal Assessment Monitoring Certification required at hire; Registered Nurse License (California); Advanced Cardiac Life Support; Neonatal Resuscitation Program; Basic Life Support.
