About the role
The Solutions Engineer at ERock serves as the technical lead for customer-facing power generation and microgrid solutions. This role involves owning system architecture, technical scope, and solution development from early customer engagement through project handoff. The Solutions Engineer works directly with customers to understand operational challenges, develop practical solutions, and communicate complex power system concepts clearly and effectively.
Responsibilities
- Lead development of microgrid and distributed generation solutions for customer proposals, including system architecture, equipment sizing, and technical scope.
- Develop electrical system designs, including single-line diagrams, layouts, and medium/low voltage system configurations.
- Perform and support power system evaluations (load, capacity, reliability) to inform design decisions.
- Serve as the primary technical interface with customers, leading discussions, whiteboarding sessions, and presentations.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, EPC, R&D, and product teams to develop optimized, executable solutions.
- Evaluate design tradeoffs across cost, performance, constructability, and schedule.
- Prepare and communicate technical content for proposals, including drawings, narratives, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct site visits and customer engagements to validate design assumptions.
- Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality and consistency of technical designs and estimates.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Strong knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage power systems, generation systems, and electrical distribution.
- Experience developing and interpreting electrical system diagrams, including single-line diagrams and power system layouts.
- Ability to evaluate technical challenges from a systems perspective and translate requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines and functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in power systems, distributed generation, microgrids, or related fields.
- Experience with power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, or reliability analysis.
- Familiarity with power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, PSCAD, PSS/E, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Experience with electrical equipment design and layout, including switchgear and interconnection systems.
- Understanding of protection schemes, relaying concepts, and system coordination.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design tools.
- Experience supporting technical proposals, bids, or customer-facing engineering efforts.
- Familiarity with RFP processes and working within defined commercial and technical constraints.
