About the role
Under immediate supervision, attend and complete classroom and field training in the operation of Refuse Trucks and other related Solid Waste Equipment.
Requirements
One (1) year of experience operating light or medium trucks or related automotive equipment. Valid Texas Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent from another state.
- Incumbents of positions requiring a CDL or of a safety sensitive nature are subject to drug and alcohol testing, and may be required to pass physical qualification examinations in accordance with federal regulations.

Attend and complete classroom and field training in the operation of Refuse Trucks and related Solid Waste Equipment. Involves:
- Attend training in solid waste truck driver functions
- Personal protective equipment
- Safety and emergency practices
- Proper backing procedures
- Disposal procedures
- Performing pre/post trip inspections
- Defensive driving
- Departmental requirements
- Policies and procedures
- Solid waste ordinance
- Standard operating procedures
- Traffic laws
- Planning and executing collection routes
- Public relations and customer service skills
