About the role

AES Operations team is looking for an experienced Solar Technician I with field experience to play a pivotal role in ensuring that AES CE operates the portfolio to standards that exceed industry best-practice. This role, based in Kuna, ID, provides an unparalleled opportunity for professional growth as AES CE grows to become one of the leading IPPs in the industry. A company vehicle and gas card are provided for commuting.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assigned O&M activities associated with the solar PV sites and substations for the utility-scale Solar Energy Plant in Kuna, ID.
  • Performs/assists with corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for equipment including but not limited to:
    • Inverters (SMA, Advanced Energy, Power Electronics, EATON, TMEIC, GPTech, Solectria, SunGrow)
    • Trackers (NEXTracker & ATI)
    • Combiner Boxes, PV Modules
    • DC Collection equipment and systems
    • AC Collection and Distribution equipment and systems
    • Transformers, battery modules
  • Performs/assists with routine maintenance work such as electrical troubleshooting and repair, instrumentation calibration, and basic Inverter troubleshooting.
  • Prepares and performs switching for HV, MV, and LV equipment.
  • Understands and executes equipment clearance (LOTO) using set procedures.
  • Follows and issues Job Safety Analysis/Work Authorization/Confined Space/Hot Work Permits as per established safety procedures.
  • Operates electrical and mechanical power plant systems.
  • Participates in training as required, with some travel.
  • Operates PV Solar and BESS facility in compliance with NERC standards and reports to concerned entities as required.
  • Performs/assists with technical and administrative duties associated with operating and maintaining a power plant, including writing/assisting with Plant Orders, Plant Procedures, and Operating Instructions.
  • Organizes and maintains files, drawings, and other documentation processes.
  • Orders and coordinates materials and services necessary for repair, maintenance, and construction of systems.
  • Collects, analyzes, and optimizes data and processes.
  • Ensures work is performed in accordance with Environmental and Safety requirements.
  • May perform work independently and/or in work crews, depending on skills and experience.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence and acts as a collaborative team contributor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One (1) or more years’ experience as a PV O&M solar technician or three (3) or more years’ experience in a power plant.
  • Experience in utility-scale projects is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical and/or mechanical fundamentals (single craft journeyman skills), such as electrical measurements, control circuits, and solid-state theory application.
  • Ability to understand engineering, electrical single line, and schematic drawings.
  • Understanding of the NEC codes and knowledge of NFPA 70E practices.

Skills

  • Understands and promotes general workplace safety and helps improve safety standards.
  • Experience with electrical systems and familiarity with basic safety principles, including LOTO and Electrical Safety.
  • Technical proficiency with standard business software and personal computers.
  • Experience with SCADA and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is highly recommended.
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative, cross-functional, and geographically diverse organization.
  • Strong integrity and excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
  • High-energy, developed interpersonal skills, and a strong work ethic.
  • Meticulous, with an ability to synthesize complex analysis and approach challenges creatively.

  • Ability to read, write, and understand English; Spanish and Portuguese are a plus.

Working Conditions

  • Works outside in a PV Solar and energy storage power plant and/or office environment, including exposure to high/low ambient temperatures and humidity.
  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment for inspections or data collection.
  • Use of personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.).
  • May work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials, and chemicals.
  • Occasional lifting as appropriate to perform duties.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required.
  • Travel to sites outside the typical area and attend call-out work as required.
