Software Engineer Intern

About the role

Upbound Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: UPBD) is a technology and data‑driven leader in accessible and inclusive financial solutions. The 2027 Summer Internship in Acima Software Engineering will be based at the corporate headquarters in Draper, Utah, and runs for ten weeks.

Responsibilities

• Work with a Product Management team to transform requirements into user stories and define software.
• Collaborate closely with other interns and experienced engineers to define project plans.
• Build full‑stack software that will be used daily in the production environment.
• Proactively develop software in new and unfamiliar situations in partnership with a team.
• Follow industry best practices of engineering excellence, considering security, compliance, quality, and design for every change.
• Use development tools such as Git, code editors, and AI agents.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science with an expected graduation date between May 2027 and May 2028.
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher.
• Demonstrated interest in learning and growth.
• Strong coding, collaboration, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with development tools like Git and at least one programming language.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Proven leadership potential through academic achievement, internships, campus involvement, athletics, military service, or extracurricular activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior internship experience in collaborative software development.
• Experience with web development in interpreted languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Ruby).
• Coursework in software architecture or backend web development.

Work Location

The internship must be performed on‑site at Upbound Group’s corporate headquarters in Draper, Utah for the entire ten‑week program.
