Software Engineer III - Android

About the Team
We are seeking a Software Engineer for a key position on Walmart’s Driver Experience group under the Last Mile Delivery initiative. Driver experience is key to the success of the Last Mile platform that powers Walmart’s Grocery, General Merchandize and Same Day Delivery propositions. We deal with driver Payments, miles driven, and externalization of Walmart Core delivery services. Last Mile Delivery is expected to grow multiple times over in the next few years. In this role, you will develop highly scalable services to process millions of requests per day and solve complex software engineering problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.
Immigration sponsorship is not available for this role. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship. This is a full-time onsite role based in Sunnyvale, CA. Remote and hybrid options are not available.
Responsibilities
- Take the lead on problems related to scale and monetization. Leverage your experience of designing and building large-scale distributed systems, solving problems related to scale, and processing huge amounts of data.
- Provide support to the business by responding to user questions, concerns, and issues.
- Research and identify needed solutions; determine implementation designs; provide guidance regarding implications of new and enhanced systems; identify short- and long-term solutions; and direct users to appropriate contacts for issues outside of your domain.
- Manage small to large-sized complex projects by reviewing project requirements; translating requirements into technical solutions; researching and identifying alternative solutions; determining needed solutions based on return on investment and value add to the business.
- Write and develop code; conduct unit testing; communicate status and issues to team members and stakeholders; collaborate with project team and cross-functional teams; identify areas of opportunity; interpret information and identify solutions; ensure solutions are sustainable across implementation and use.
- Troubleshoot business and production issues by gathering information (e.g., issue, impact, criticality, possible root cause); perform root cause analysis to reduce future issues; engage support teams to assist in resolution.
- Develop solutions; drive the development of an action plan; perform actions as designated in the plan; interpret results to determine further action; complete online documentation.
- Provide and support the implementation of business solutions by building relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders; identify business needs; determine and carry out necessary processes and practices; monitor progress and results; recognize and capitalize on improvement opportunities; adapt to competing demands, organizational changes, and new responsibilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 4+ years of Android experience with MVVM-C architecture and languages including Kotlin, Java, and GraphQL.
- Hands-on experience with the Android SDK framework and ecosystem.
- Strong fundamentals in OOP, reactive programming, and design patterns.
- Solid understanding of Android UI, design principles, patterns, and best practices.
- Good knowledge of algorithms with problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent unit and functional (UI) testing skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders.
- Experience with Kafka or other high-volume, low-latency messaging infrastructure.
- Experience with Azure Cloud Stack or other cloud stacks.
- Extensive knowledge of open-source libraries, design patterns, and microservice architecture.
- Familiarity with CI/CD and unit testing.

Pay
The annual salary range for this position is $117,000 - $234,000. Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses and stock for certain positions.
