About the role

AWS Infrastructure Services designs, plans, delivers, and operates all AWS global infrastructure. The team keeps the cloud running by supporting data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. You’ll join a diverse group of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply‑chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost. As part of Shield, AWS’s defense team within Perimeter Protection, you will help safeguard the cloud infrastructure that powers a significant portion of the modern internet.

Responsibilities

• Design the future of AWS security architecture, focusing on next‑generation protection mechanisms that will defend AWS and its customers for years to come.
• Work on existing and greenfield projects that shape how attacks are detected, mitigated, and prevented at unprecedented scale and in real‑time.
• Collaborate closely with research and DDoS response teams to build solutions that stop Layer 3/4 and Layer 7 attacks more effectively.
• Address scaling challenges by handling traffic volumes and attack patterns that push the boundaries of distributed‑systems design.
• Engage in creative problem solving in an ambiguous, fast‑moving threat landscape, designing solutions for attacks that don’t yet exist.
• Balance massive scale, rapid iteration, and effective mitigation while ensuring safe and reliable customer traffic flow.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ years of designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ years of Object‑Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life‑cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source‑control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Pay

USA, WA, Seattle – $143,700 – $194,400 USD annually (base salary range). Final compensation includes sign‑on payments, RSUs, and varies based on experience, qualifications, and location.
