Software Dev Engineer II

About the role

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the SDE II DevOps Toolchain will join a highly skilled software development team to build tools, processes, and automation frameworks that improve productivity, drive efficiency, and ensure the quality and reliability of our software products. This role is ideal for a passionate individual eager to transform software development at a Fortune 500 company and enable our teams to deliver faster.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the software development tools strategy to accelerate our development teams.
• Execute on the implementation of our tools roadmap, including a CI/CD pipeline used across the organization for broadband, video, mobile, and customer support applications.
• Implement tools to identify, document, and track software defects, working closely with development teams to resolve issues and ensure timely fixes.
• Introduce capabilities for effective A/B testing of releases across test populations.
• Lead process improvement initiatives to enhance testing practices, tools, and methodologies.
• Implement tools to monitor and report on key quality metrics, such as defect rates, test coverage, and test execution progress.
• Analyze metrics to identify areas for improvement.
• Leverage developer tools and test automation to transform software release processes, enabling faster delivery of capabilities to customers.
• Use and customize out-of-the-box tools to instrument and monitor systems.
• Contribute to a structured knowledge base for creating, maintaining, and extending documentation for developer tools and processes.
• Establish and gain acceptance for key results indicated by our development pipeline and automation test frameworks.
• Use prototypes and proof-of-concepts as the primary tool for deep exploration of architecture and software designs.
• Serve as the go-to advocate for developer tools in the organization, continuing to make Optimum a developer-friendly environment.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• 2-4 years of software development engineering experience.
• Proficiency in a variety of programming languages (Python, Java, C#).
• Experience with Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services and their capabilities.
• Thorough understanding of software methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Experience with the implementation and optimization of CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with the automation of test cases.
• Strong intuition for software design, with a willingness to learn from other teams and projects.
• Experience with data formats and performance considerations related to data locality.
• Demonstrated experience solving performance and data issues by applying knowledge and expertise.
• Comfortable working with live production systems, debugging issues, and taking careful actions with protections against damage.
• Contributes to establishing and maintaining corporate policies related to technology.
• Familiarity with AI tools and an AI-first mindset.

Pay

The starting pay rate/range for this position in New York is $100,246.00 - $164,689.00 per year. In Plano, TX, the starting pay range is $83,538.00 - $137,241.00 per year. For other locations, please inquire with your recruiter. Pay is competitive and based on job-related factors, including skills and experience.
