Sociology - Full-Time, Temporary, Non-Tenure Track Visiting Assistant Professor
About the Role
Teaches, advises, and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works collaboratively with colleagues and professional peers, participates in university meetings related to faculty, and serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as required. Teaching, research, department, college, and university service are expected.
This is a full-time, temporary, non-tenure-track visiting assistant professor position for Spring 2027 only.
Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of Sociology courses, ranging from introductory undergraduate to graduate level.
- Engage in service and scholarly activities as standard expectations for the position.
- Teach 12 credit hours per semester.
- Teach in a variety of instructional formats (in-person, hybrid, online) as needed and appropriate.
Requirements
- An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in Sociology is required. A doctorate in a related field will be considered (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).
- ABD candidates with a clear dissertation defense date will be considered.

College/Department Overview
The College of Liberal Arts consists of 8 academic units and has over 100 full-time faculty members. The Department of Sociology, Gerontology, and Substance Abuse Studies offers BA degrees in Sociology; Sociology—Human Services; and Sociology—Substance Abuse Studies, as well as an MA degree in Addictions Counseling.
