Social Worker (Program Coordinator)
About the role
The role of the Women Veteran Program Coordinator (WVPC) is a Social Work Program Coordinator whose primary responsibilities are to provide clinical evidence-based services and interventions; program development; Veteran and staff education on Women's Health programming and resources; community outreach; resource development; continuous quality improvement activities; and evaluation/consultation.
Responsibilities
- Collaborating with the WVPM, Women Veteran Program staff and V AMC staff to design, develop and evaluate program performance and activities to enhance health care delivery.
- Conducting outreach activities at the local level to increase awareness of Women Veterans health services offered in the Veterans' Health Administration (VHA).
- Being knowledgeable of and implementing the VHA and Veterans Integrated Network System (VISN) strategic goals related to the provision of healthcare to Women Veterans.
- Being knowledgeable of and using data sources to assess and evaluate the Saginaw V AMC Women's Health Program.
- Serving as subject matter expert regarding communication of health care trends and issues involving Women Veterans' health at the facility level.
- Conducting program and/or service audits and completing designated clinical practice audits and reports.
- Encouraging and participating in work groups to validate and improve health care delivery to Women Veterans.
- Aids in the development of policies and procedures for program operation in the area of specialty and assists the WVPM with reports and statistics for the facility, VISN and national use.
- Works directly with Women Veterans to assess their satisfaction and experience of care received within the Saginaw VAMC, as well as to assure a safe environment free from harassment.
- May participate in the facility's Social Work On Call Program, providing after hours coverage in accordance with established eligibility criteria, scheduling procedures, and program protocols.

The WVPC includes administrative, leadership and clinical elements combined to support activities relative to Women's health care and meeting the needs of Women Veterans such as:
Qualifications
- Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
- Licensure/Certification: Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
- Experience: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:
- Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
- Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
- Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
- Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
- Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.
Skills
Skilled communicator capable of developing effective partnerships with local, state and federal agencies as well as non-governmental organizations.

Competitive salary and regular salary increases. When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
