Social Worker Investigative/Assessment and Treatment - In Home
About the Role
The main purpose of this position is to provide protection for children who have been substantiated or found in need of services due to abuse, neglect, or dependency. CPS In-Home services are delivered to families to address and alleviate the issues leading to abusive or neglectful situations, aiming to prevent further occurrences of child neglect, abuse, or dependency.
Responsibilities
- Apply thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices to complex casework, treatment, and investigation of child abuse or neglect.
- Understand and apply policies and procedures, citing federal and state law authority as needed.
- Assess individual and group behavior, family dynamics, and medical, behavioral, or psychosocial problems, including their treatment theories.
- Utilize knowledge of governmental and private community resources.
- Engage and motivate resistant or involuntary clients and the public, even when they disagree with laws, rules, or policies.
- Prepare documentation such as written investigative reports for court, case records, and treatment plans.
- Testify as an expert witness in legal proceedings.
- Employ advanced case management and interview techniques to establish supportive relationships and involve families in initial service assessments.
- Quickly assess risks and safety in client environments, including during daylight, after dark, and in high-crime areas.
- Use expert negotiation skills in complex cases.
- Analyze child development safety issues in relation to risk factors.
- Assess tense family situations and make decisions about child removal with limited information or consultation access.
- Communicate effectively and establish supportive client relationships.
- Perform manual work, occasionally exerting up to 50 pounds of force and/or constantly moving up to 10 pounds of force.
Qualifications
Minimum education and experience requirements include one of the following:
- Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience.
- Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience.
- Four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience.
- Graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field with experience in casework, group work, or community organization techniques.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
One year of work experience may be credited for completion of the social work collaborative.
For Social Worker III at Salary Grade 69 ($60,061 - $94,929), the following minimum training and experience apply:
- Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
- Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only).
- Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year of directly related experience.
- Master's degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience.
- Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years of directly related experience.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience.
Directly related experience is defined as human services experience in case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy, and treatment planning.
A valid North Carolina driver's license is required. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Pay
Salary Grade 69: $60,061 - $94,929 for Social Worker III.
