Social Worker - Investigative/Assessment and Treatment (Part-Time)

Part-time position located in Asheboro, NC.

About the role

This is an advanced, professional-level casework position providing protective, investigative, counseling, and case management services for children who are at risk for neglect, abuse, and/or dependency. The role involves immediate response to crisis situations for at-risk children in complex cases, including investigations, assessments, court testimony, and follow-up case management.

Responsibilities

  • Receive referrals of clients requiring social work assessment and/or intervention and make initial contact.
  • Initiate investigations and/or assessments within timeframes defined by NC General Statutes and CPS policy, which may require immediate action depending on the nature of the allegation(s).
  • Petition the court for immediate custody of children and arrange placement in licensed foster homes or approved relative placements when children are at immediate risk.
  • Maintain cases, including required contacts and documentation, until transfer to a foster care social worker is complete.
  • Conduct investigations/assessments through interviews, home visits, collateral contacts, and other fact-finding methods in accordance with NC General Statutes and CPS policy.
  • Ensure timely face-to-face contact with families throughout the investigation and/or assessment phase.
  • Prepare social histories and family assessments, documenting facts within legal definitions of abuse, neglect, or dependency.
  • Determine if abuse, neglect, or dependency exists and assess the level of intervention necessary to ensure child safety.
  • Inform clients of available programs and services, encouraging participation in appropriate activities.
  • Understand the legal basis for involuntary intervention and provide services to involuntary clients.
  • Review results with a supervisor and make recommendations concerning case disposition.
  • Complete CPS investigations and/or assessments within required timeframes, including transfers to foster care, in-home services, or case closure.
  • Maintain detailed, up-to-date case records and prepare statistical reports as required.
  • Thoroughly document all contacts with children, parents, and collaterals (e.g., extended family, school personnel, medical/mental health professionals).
  • Use prescribed tools/forms, including electronic case management systems (e.g., NC FAST), as required by policy.
  • Perform on-call duties when assigned.
  • Provide court reports and expert testimony as required.
  • Build collaborative relationships across the organization, seek win-win solutions to conflict, and display empathy for diverse viewpoints.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work and one year of social work experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or
  • Master’s degree in a counseling field and two years of social work or counseling experience; or
  • Four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum and three years of social work or counseling experience; or
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university and four years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human service field; or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience.

One year of work experience can be credited for completion of the social work collaborative. Transcripts must be included with the application.

Pay

Annual salary range: $29,183.52 – $33,356.50.
