Job Summary

To provide patients and family members with psychosocial support and counseling needed to cope with issues which arise from various emotional or physical problems. To coordinate a variety of services including group therapy, crisis intervention, bereavement, client advocacy, referrals, prevention, education and implementation, and psychosocial assessments. To supervise undergraduate and graduate students and collaborate in the development and implementation of performance improvement initiatives.

Education & Experience

  • Required: Master's Degree or higher in Social Work (MSW)
  • Required: Licensed Social Worker in the State of Mississippi
  • Required: Licensed Master Social Worker from the MS State Board of Examiners for Social Workers and Marriage & Family Therapists

Responsibilities

  • Conducts and documents detailed psychosocial assessments/evaluations to interpret social, environmental, and medical needs of the patient/family
  • Maintains records and prepares reports according to departmental guidelines
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and recommends alternative plans as needed
  • Provides or supervises plan of care interventions to include resource and referral assistance, crisis intervention, prevention, education, patient advocacy, bereavement, therapy, and counseling as appropriate
  • Collaborates with the healthcare team and involves the patient and/or family in the development and implementation of plans
  • Attends and participates in staff, committee department and other administrative meetings as directed
  • Maintains a working knowledge of and liaison with community agencies; participate in area activities related to health and social services
  • Attends and participates in staff, committee department and other administrative meetings as directed
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives to include data collection and analysis, development and participation in continuing education programs, development and editing of policies and procedures, and serving on committees; prepares and maintains applicable reports and records
  • Attends and participates in staff, committee department and other administrative meetings as directed
  • Maintains a working knowledge of relevant medical/legal issues that impact on patient care (E.G. Advance directives, child and elder abuse etc.)
  • Keeps current with social work and health care developments and increases enhancement of job related knowledge
  • Serves as field instructor for social work students and provides supervision to LMSW's for certification as assigned
  • Assists with orientation and mentoring of employees
