Social Worker HC Supervisor 2

Supervise clinical and support staff providing mental health services and assist the Program Manager in developing, implementing, and evaluating program policies and procedures. Provide clinical social work evaluations, individual and group counseling, monitor medication side effects under the direction of a Psychiatrist, case management, crisis intervention, documentation, consultation, training, education, and referral.

Responsibilities

• Administrative management (60%): Oversee daily operations, staff supervision, and program development.
• Clinical assessment (20%): Conduct social work evaluations, individual and group counseling, and case management.
• Consultation (10%): Provide expert guidance to multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Training, education, and research (5%): Develop and deliver training programs, educational initiatives, and contribute to research efforts.
• Professional development (5%): Engage in ongoing learning and skill enhancement.

Requirements

• Active and unrestricted California Clinical Social Worker License (LCSW).
• Master’s Degree from an accredited School of Social Work.
• Clinical work experience in a social service, healthcare, jail, or correctional setting.
• One year of supervisory experience.
• Thorough knowledge of DSM-5 and diagnostic criteria.
• Ability to manage conflict and apply progressive discipline principles.
• Knowledge of Collective Bargaining and Affirmative Action principles.
• Strong communication skills and ability to motivate employees.
• Ability to promote and coordinate a multidisciplinary team.
• Knowledge of child, elder abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements, as well as laws regulating social work practice (e.g., Tarasoff, patient confidentiality).
• Ability to make appropriate interventions based on law and policy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Social work experience in a jail or correctional setting.
• Knowledge and skills in individual, group, and family therapy.
• Familiarity with community resources.
• Advanced understanding of computer and Microsoft Office functionality.

About the Department

Adult Correctional Mental Health (ACMH) is a satellite contract program of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The program provides mental health services to incarcerated individuals in Sacramento County’s two jails (downtown Sacramento and Elk Grove) and offers Jail Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) and Early Access and Stabilization Services (EASS) to inmates found incompetent to stand trial (PC 1370).

Pay

$8,125.00–$15,225.00 monthly, with an ongoing 8% correctional site stipend contingent upon the contract with Sacramento County.

Schedule

Four 10-hour shifts per week, including weekends. This is a 100% on-site position located at Sacramento County Main Jail and/or Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center.

Physical Demands

• Frequent standing, walking, and sitting (3–6 hours).
• Occasional lifting/carrying, pushing/pulling, bending/stooping, squatting/kneeling, climbing, and reaching overhead (up to 25 lbs, up to 3 hours).
• Frequent keyboard use/repetitive motion (3–6 hours).
• Occasional exposure to chemicals, dust, gases, loud noise, temperature changes, and uneven surfaces (up to 3 hours).

Mental Demands

• Frequent sustained attention, complex problem-solving, organization, prioritization, and communication (3–6 hours).
• Constant interaction, customer/patient contact, and multitasking (3–6 hours).

Work Environment

• Highly stressful jail custody setting with incarcerated individuals; may involve hazardous conditions, malodorous/noisy environments, and restrictive spaces.
• Must adhere to an institutional “No Hostage Policy.”
• Must pass and maintain Sacramento Sheriff Department’s Security Clearance.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends.

Special Requirements

• Employment contingent on clearing a criminal background check, drug screening, medical evaluation, and functional capacity assessment.
• Designated as a mandated reporter under CANRA and UC policy; compliance with training and procedures required.
• Final candidate must disclose any prior misconduct findings, allegations, or investigations within the last seven years.
