Social Work Supervisor III - Child Protective Services

Duties and Responsibilities

Johnston County Department of Social Services is seeking a Family-Centered, policy-driven Child Protective Services (CPS) Supervisor to supervise a CPS Investigator unit. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise a staff whose duty is to keep children under the age of 18 safe by investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, and dependency, front-load services, and monitor compliance of services that will enable parents to provide a nurturing environment for their children when the case is closed. The supervisor will serve as a second-level decision-maker regarding the next steps in case decisions are made through the current process when removal of children from their parents/caregivers' home is necessary. The supervisor will assign CPS reports daily after reviewing the report and ensure that the case is assigned and initiated within the required timeframe. Monitor the work or staff through weekly or as-needed case reviews, progress reports, conferences, informal discussions, and coaching sessions to assure compliance with operational standards and established policies. Review and ensure that documentation and day sheets are completed in a timely manner, as per policy. Provide on-the-job training for staff and arrange for staff to receive formal training when needed and offered. Train staff, assist with problem resolution, and ensure qualified services are provided.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training, considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems, considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations, and policies, which govern social work programs. Must possess the ability to supervise, train/orient lower-level social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively.

Education and Experience

• Master's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of directly related experience;
• or a bachelor's degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience;
• or a master's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of directly related experience;
• or a bachelor's degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of directly related experience;
• or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Applicants with a strong policy background in Child Welfare & previous supervisory experience in a social work program within a county department of social services;
• Extensive front-line experience in a county department of social services in North Carolina preferably in Child Welfare.
