About the Role

The Alumni Association of the University of Michigan is seeking a creative Social Media & Marketing Coordinator to be the digital voice of the Alumni Association. In this role, you will execute cutting-edge social media strategies that grow our footprint, captivate our audience, and elevate our brand. Your content—whether filming short-form video at major events, shaping the online presence of our executive leadership, or experimenting with emerging digital trends—will spark nostalgia, foster belonging, and drive real action.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing and executing the social media strategy in collaboration with marketing and content teammates to achieve goals for engagement, marketing conversion, and storytelling.
  • Grow the Alumni Association's social media presence by curating and creating day-to-day content, including copy, basic graphics, photos, and videos.
  • Create, edit, and publish short-form video.
  • Ensure content, tone, and voice align with Alumni Association brand guidelines.
  • Track key performance indicators (KPIs), analyze data, and generate reports to assess campaign and content effectiveness.
  • Maintain the long-term publishing calendar, identifying timely and relevant ideas and collaborating with internal teams to develop engaging content.
  • Provide live coverage (photos and videos) of the Alumni Association's signature events.
  • Engage digital communities on social media channels by monitoring and moderating comments, responding to questions, and escalating as needed.
  • Consult and assist with marketing paid media initiatives.
  • Execute basic database queries to segment audience communications.
  • Represent the Alumni Association in the University of Michigan's social media community of practice, collaborating with partners across U-M.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices, testing and implementing new ideas, exploring new channels, and optimizing existing ones.
  • Assist marketing managers with tasks such as creating creative briefs, compiling marketing data, and routine web editing.
  • Demonstrate organizational leadership by upholding core values and fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Support University Relations efforts by showcasing AAUM value to campus partners.
  • Build and maintain digital skill sets to enhance work effectiveness.
  • Staff and participate in team meetings, Alumni Association events (including evenings/weekends), and offsite retreats.
  • Provide staff support to the Alumni Association's Board of Directors, committees, and volunteers as needed.
  • Coordinate special projects and participate in committees as required.
  • Support the Alumni Association's vision of creating a place of belonging for all alumni.
  • Stay current with technology and the university's educational resources.

Requirements

  • 2 years of experience managing social media or digital content to increase engagement within a brand.
  • Strong understanding of the University of Michigan brand.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Mail, Sheets, Docs, Slides, Chat, etc.).
  • Demonstrated passion for building your own digital skill set.
  • Team player with a collaborative attitude.
  • Excellent written communication skills for social media.
  • Proven ability to generate creative, innovative solutions with a results-driven mindset.
  • Ability to work effectively with leaders and colleagues from diverse perspectives and lived experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Sprout Social or similar platforms.
  • Experience with Marketing Cloud or similar email marketing platforms.
  • Familiarity with Google Sheets, Excel, and similar software.

Schedule

  • Hybrid position requiring 3 days in the office per week (starting the week of September 13th).
  • Evening and weekend work required to support Alumni Association events and programs.
  • Occasional travel required.

The Alumni Center is located in Ann Arbor, MI.
