About the role

The USF Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a board certified/board-eligible emergency and fellowship trained social medicine physician, to serve as Social Medicine Fellowship Director and Medical Director of the Gulf Coast Refugee Organization. This full time academic and clinical faculty position combines emergency department practice within the Tampa General Hospital Emergency Department system, including the main academic medical center and the South Campus Freestanding Emergency Departments, with leadership of a fellowship training program in social emergency medicine and health equity, and medical oversight of the Gulf Coast Refugee organization.

Responsibilities

  • Practice in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Center that serves as the primary teaching site for the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.
  • Participate in bedside teaching at the main academic site has Medical Students and Residents present.
  • Direct and administer the Social Medicine Fellowship, including curriculum design, fellow recruitment/selection and mentorship.
  • Mentor fellows in scholarly/research projects, community based advocacy, and career development.
  • Coordinate fellow rotations across street medicine, refugee health, and other social-medicine clinical settings, and represent the program through SAEM's Social EM and Population Health Fellowship Approval process and national conferences.
  • Teach and supervise emergency medicine residents and medical students, both on shift and through contributions to resident/student curricula on social determinants of health.

Qualifications

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.
  • Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required.
  • To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties.
  • Participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.
