Social Content Creator
About the role
The Austin American-Statesman is hiring a Social Content Creator to grow our various news products into household names, starting with Hook’em in time for the University of Texas football season. The Social Content Creator will create and execute a vision for various Statesman Instagram and TikTok accounts, such as Hook’Em, Austin360, and reporter handles. They’ll work closely with our Audience Team and other newsroom departments to grow the Statesman’s off-platform reach by shooting, editing, and posting engaging video content, including podcast clips. This position sits on the Statesman’s Audience Team.
The ideal candidate will bring energy, social media best practices, and an entrepreneurial spirit to our best-in-class journalism.
Responsibilities
- Create and execute a vision to grow audiences for Statesman brands on social media
- Develop a video content plan, shoot, edit, and post video to Statesman social accounts
- Identify user-generated content that enhances storytelling and engages the social media audience; work with reporters to obtain permission to modify and publish such content
- Interact with the social audience in ways that grow loyalty and enhance the brand
- Shoot, edit, and post in-studio podcasts, using best practices for cutting clips for social media
- Create promotional touchpoints for various products to grow audiences across channels (social, newsletters, podcasts, etc.)
- Appear on camera comfortably
- Maintain high audio and visual standards, ensuring content follows digital copyright laws
- Uphold high journalistic standards, ensuring content is accurate, fair, and reported without bias
Requirements
- Demonstrated ability to grow a brand on social media
- Experience with video editing, specifically vertical social video
- Experience with shooting, editing, and posting podcasts
- Proficiency in Canva and Adobe products: Photoshop, Premiere, Audition
- Social-media native who enjoys keeping up and participating in trends
- Demonstrated ability to experiment and pivot when strategies aren’t working
- Team player who can rally colleagues around an idea
- Able to learn new tools and tech independently and quickly
- Able to consistently meet tight deadlines
- Uses data to make strategic decisions; experience with performance analytics tools like Google Analytics, Marfeel, Looker Studio
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, advertising, journalism, or related field
- 2+ years of professional experience in a similar role (open to recent grads with strong internship experience)
