About the Role
The Director position is responsible for leading the Ski and Ride School, focusing on program growth and development, recruiting, motivating, and training staff, developing and following a financial plan, implementing a risk management plan, and demonstrating passion and enthusiasm for the sport. This leadership role is critical to the successful growth and development of the company.
Responsibilities
- Hire, motivate, evaluate, and direct staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established departmental goals and objectives.
- Ensure all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback, and resources necessary to achieve departmental success.
- Establish departmental standards, guidelines, objectives, and operations plans; maintain administrative processes such as budgeting and staffing.
- Maintain and enhance the guest-focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
- Manage schedules in compliance with departmental objectives and resort safety policies.
- Stay current on legal issues and technological advances impacting the industry and apply this knowledge to improve programs.
- Monitor competition and apply insights to benefit department programs.
- Communicate effectively with all levels of employees, guests, and outside contacts in alignment with company culture.
- Manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Ensure departmental compliance with applicable state and federal labor standards and regulations.
- Oversee Ski & Ride School programs, including Adult and Children’s programs, Teams programs, teaching areas, seasonal programs, and training programs.
- Delegate responsibility, motivate, and lead direct reports to achieve goals and objectives.
- Move around all areas of the mountain and base facilities year-round.
- Assist and support the Front Desk and guest services staff with private lessons and lesson packages to promote and complete sales and reservations.
- Create and price all lessons and programs with General Manager approval.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department on the promotion of approved programs.
- Oversee inventory and maintenance of all equipment and uniforms to maintain resort standards.
- Work closely with all Managers to improve the resort's quality of guest experience.
- Promote safe skiing/snowboarding by educating staff and the public on safety codes and common-sense rules.
- Prioritize safety by reporting harmful equipment or situations, accidents, and incidents promptly.
- Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures.
- Operate equipment and drive safely in accordance with the law and company policies.
- Coordinate staff effectively during emergencies.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Oversee the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of staff.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities, including interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, and directing work.
- Appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, and address complaints and resolve problems.
- Work closely with Human Resources to resolve employee issues and enhance employee relationships.
Qualifications
- Energetic and enthusiastic about skiing, snowboarding, and coaching.
- Working knowledge of general business practices, financial planning, strategic planning, organizational skills, and Snowsports school management.
- Understanding of corporate and property-specific policies and procedures.
- Minimum of five years of supervisory experience and ten years of teaching snow sports.
- PSIA/AASI Level II or Level III current certification.
Skills
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to walk and ski or snowboard at an advanced skill level across all terrain.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- May frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include depth perception.

Schedule
- Expected to work 40 to 48 hours per week, including weekends and holidays, depending on weather conditions and guest numbers.
- During busy periods, may be expected to work six days a week.
- Must arrange reliable transportation to ensure punctual arrival at work, often driving on hilly, snowpacked, and icy road surfaces.
