This entry-level technician provides care to patients through technology, therapeutic intervention, and coordination with other healthcare professionals while performing physiologic studies of sleep and sleep-related disorders under the supervision of a CPSGT, RPSGT, or higher credentialed staff member.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors and documents interactions with patients undergoing physiologic sleep studies.
  • Monitors and tracks equipment and supplies.
  • Completes record keeping and charting.
  • Addresses and solves both technical and interpersonal problems.
  • Uses computerized and mechanical equipment efficiently.
  • Cares for patients under the direction of a preceptor or supervisor.
  • Obtains 10 Continuing Education Credits (CEC) related to sleep medicine annually.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED.
  • BLS Certification or RQI for Healthcare Providers.
  • Available to work varying shifts, including night shift.
  • Must complete the Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) within 8 months of starting this role.
  • Specific certifications or skills as required by facility or patient population (e.g., PALS, ACLS, NRP).
  • Must obtain two progressive credentials as a condition of continued employment:
    • Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) within 8 months of hire/transfer.
    • Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential within 18 months of initial hire/transfer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical or patient care experience.
  • Anatomy and medical terminology courses.
  • PSGT Permit issued by the Idaho State Board of Medicine (if working in Idaho).
  • Previous sleep medicine experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions requiring verbal communication, hearing, and understanding spoken information quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity to manipulate complex and delicate equipment, including frequent computer use.
  • May require physical demands similar to clinical or patient care roles when taking clinical shifts.
  • For roles requiring driving: Ability to drive a vehicle, including sitting, seeing, and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Schedule

  • Full Time: 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, Monday – Wednesday

Pay

$24.30 - $37.52 per hour, dependent upon experience.
