About the role
To create and maintain the next generation of application infrastructure and be responsible for reliability, automation, and scalability using the latest best practices.
Responsibilities
- Implement software and tools to improve performance—availability, scalability, and latency—while delivering end products to customers with the highest efficiency and meeting all security standards.
- Build automation and tooling around application management, such as deployments, configuration changes, and disaster recovery scenarios.
- Implement and evangelize observability and monitoring systems to proactively detect problems and identify causes.
- Evaluate application capacity continuously to provide stats to Product/Business teams and recommend an efficient path to scale for future needs.
- Identify performance bottlenecks and work with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Implement standards across multiple disciplines, systems, and practices to improve overall application delivery.
- Work directly with application development teams to provide feedback and technical requirements to the software development lifecycle, implementing best-practice microservice design patterns and other modern software development approaches.
- Serve as a technical liaison for the application and provide documents and runbooks to Level 1 and Level 2 teams.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
- Champion excellent processes; take the initiative in developing repeatable patterns and standard, reusable work across teams.
- Support the company's commitment to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent certifications.
- Minimum of 2 years of prior DevOps, software engineering, or related experience.
- Ability to work different schedules as part of an on-call rotation.
- Ability to work on multiple projects and general understanding of software environments and network topologies.
- Working and troubleshooting experience on Linux-based applications.
- Demonstrable technical design skills.
- Demonstrable experience in modern application design.
- Solid understanding of an iterative software development process.
- Ability to use Unix/Linux command line programs and create/edit scripts.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following tools: Chef, Ansible, Puppet.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: IAC, Containerization, and orchestration (Terraform, Docker & Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of one of the cloud infrastructure providers: AWS, GCP, and Azure.
- Background and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Good programming skills in one or more of the following languages: Java, Ruby, Python, JavaScript, and Go.
- Hands-on experience in supporting applications in a 24x7 customer-facing production environment.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD workflows.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience with TCP/UDP/IP protocols.
- Working knowledge of AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Swarm.
Physical Requirements
- Working conditions consist of a normal office environment.
- Work is primarily sedentary and requires extensive use of a computer, involving sitting for periods of approximately four hours.
- Work may require occasional standing, walking, kneeling, and reaching.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
- Requires visual acuity and dexterity to view, prepare, and manipulate documents and office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to communicate with internal and/or external customers.
- Must be able to perform essential functions and physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Pay
The base pay scale for this position is:
- Phoenix, AZ / Chicago, IL: $86,000 - $105,000 USD per year.
- San Francisco, CA: $103,000 - $126,000 USD per year.
Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits. This pay scale is subject to change and is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, as it depends on various factors considered at the time of the job offer.
