About the role

The Site Leader will provide world-class jobsite leadership for large, long-duration, high-profile projects for Vertiv power and/or thermal equipment. As the primary on-site technical representative, the Site Leader is responsible from construction start through start-up, site acceptance testing, and project completion. The role requires establishing and maintaining excellent rapport with customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and others, and working closely with the assigned Project Manager to control costs, adhere to schedules, manage resources, and deliver a positive customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Construction and Technical Leadership: Provide jobsite construction and technical leadership for large projects with working knowledge of critical infrastructure equipment in data centers, including Vertiv-manufactured equipment.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a multi-disciplinary on-site team including Project Leaders, Installers, Technicians, Customer Engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Customer Coordination: Represent Vertiv at daily customer meetings, articulate technical requirements for the day’s schedule, and coordinate activities with other parties on-site.
  • Start-up and Testing: Lead and support start-up and site testing activities, ensure sufficient manpower on-site daily, and assist as needed based on availability and site location.
  • Reporting: Provide daily status reports to Service Management, Project Management, and sales representatives.
  • Safety Leadership: Conduct daily toolbox talks, pre-job safety walks and inspections, and drive timely corrective/preventative actions. Ensure adherence to all site and Vertiv safety policies, wear appropriate PPE, and model safe behavior including use of STOP WORK Authority and Good Catch engagement.
  • Administrative Duties: Ensure adherence to Vertiv Warranty process, provide accurate and timely reporting (timecards, expense reports, mileage reports, SR/task closure), support Project Manager with technical data, and maintain company property including credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, and smartphone.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Maintain proper communication with internal and external customers, align daily activities with customer expectations, and drive clarification or re-alignment when misalignment is detected.

Qualifications

  • Experience: One or more of the following:
    • ASEET or ASMET preferred
    • Equivalent industry experience, specifically leading and actively participating in start-up and commissioning of power and/or HVAC equipment
    • Six years’ military experience in a related field
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial construction management
  • Interpersonal Skills: Vertiv Behavior practitioner; strong organizational skills; independent operator; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to build and maintain trusting customer relationships; collaborative in high-stress environments; executive presence; adaptable to changing customer priorities.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams and blueprints; ability to make immediate site evaluations including environmental temperature and general operating conditions; summarize and report work tasks; independently evaluate and recommend customer solutions; lead technical activities of other technicians; provide on-site customer consultation; expert in COHE and site acceptance testing procedures; advanced computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and testing/data analysis programs; mechanical aptitude.

Working Conditions

  • Long-term assignments ranging from 4 weeks to 12+ months based on project scope and schedule.
  • Field rotation includes three consecutive weeks on-site followed by one week of service break in home office, with expectation to complete a minimum of 40 billable hours and administrative duties during the break.
  • Projects may involve industrial new construction (greenfield) or retrofit construction (brownfield).
  • Flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Deployable in the event of emergencies.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel objects, tools or components; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk, hear, and smell.
  • Frequently required to sit and climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
