Founded in 1963 during the Civil Rights Movement, SEO closes educational and career opportunity gaps for 7,000 ambitious young people annually. SEO Scholars is a free, eight-year, academic program that transforms public high school students in New York City, San Francisco, North Carolina, and Miami into college graduates. SEO Scholars successfully educates and mentors students to and through college. 100% of Scholars are accepted into four-year colleges, 85% of Scholars graduate with a Bachelor’s degree, and 80% are first-generation college graduates. Position Overview
The Site Assistant supports the execution of SEO Scholars’ Summer Academy operations including technology maintenance and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities
- Welcoming and checking in scholars, instructors, and program staff; answering questions about daily events and directing community members to campus spaces.
- Setting up and navigating program technology such as attendance trackers, barcode scanners, and Zoom chat; providing projectors and adapter support as needed.
- Tracking and distributing items such as MetroCards, instructor totebags, and daily technology loans.
- Picking up and distributing scholar lunches on-site.
- Supporting end-of-day closing procedures, completing biweekly inventory, moving program materials to storage, and replenishing snacks.
- Projecting an energetic, engaging, and approachable persona to foster students’ connection to the program and positive relationships within the community.
Qualifications
- Excellent organizational skills, detail-orientation, and ability to multitask and handle challenging priorities.
- Highly resourceful and solutions-oriented; flexible to work in-person or virtually when needed.
- Comfortable navigating technological learning systems.
- Sound judgment, maturity, and ability to communicate and serve as a role model to high school students.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 30 pounds.
Compensation
$18.50 per hour. This position averages 8–10 hours per week. Compensation may be adjusted based on the applicant’s skills, qualifications, and experience, and SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.

- Saturday Academy dates: September 12, 19, 26; October 3, 17, 24; November 7, 14, 21; December 5, 12; January 16, 23, 30; February 6, 13, 27; March 6, 13, 20; April 3, 10, 17; May 8, 15
- Hours: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
- On-site placement at Baruch College (55 Lexington Ave., New York) or LIU Brooklyn (1 University Plaza, Brooklyn)
- Occasional in-person orientations or professional development may be held at the SEO Office, 55 Exchange Place, New York, NY 10005, or via Zoom.
