About the role
This position performs technical duties assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices. The role also involves fabricating signs for all city departments and related tasks.
Responsibilities
- Erect guide, warning, regulatory, and street signs.
- Inspect existing signs and replace damaged or defective ones.
- Install reflectors on roads and pavement markings.
- Paint curbs and sign posts; stripe roadways.
- Clear brush at intersections and around signs.
- Install thermo stop bars, crosswalks, and lane lines.
- Install and uninstall traffic counters.
- Install detour and safe work zone barricades, cones, and signs.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of the Standard Highway Signs Manual.
- Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
- Knowledge of city policies and procedures related to the manufacture, maintenance, and installation of signs and pavement markings.
- Knowledge of work zone safety principles.
- Skill in the operation of hand and power tools.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of an assigned vehicle.
- Skill in the installation and maintenance of signs and pavement markings.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a high school level or equivalent.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, typically associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or one to two years in a similar position.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Pay
$17.25/hour
