About the role

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is seeking a Signal Construction Specialist to join the Signal Operations team. This position is responsible for providing technical assistance and quality assurance inspections prior to and during the construction of traffic signals and ITS systems within the Metro District.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance and quality assurance inspections prior to and during construction of traffic signals and ITS systems.
  • Coordinate signal turn-ons by utilizing available resources from the Signal Operations Unit and verifying that all aspects of the signal have been tested before the turn-on.
  • Represent the Metro Signal Operation Unit at designated recertification training, providing expertise of field inspection for contractors and internal employees.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience at the Transportation Specialist level (or equivalent).
  • Knowledge and application of traffic engineering principles and standards.
  • Knowledge and application of MnDOT Construction Plan content and organization.
  • Knowledge and application of Project Management applications, evaluation, and problem-solving techniques in construction.
  • Valid Class D Driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MnDOT Signal and Lighting Certification.
  • Knowledge of MnDOT Standard Specifications for Signal construction.

Skills

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
