Description
We are seeking an experienced Signal Specialist Engineer to serve as the technical and product subject-matter expert for the Company’s signal product portfolio. This position is responsible for supporting the design, development, configuration, documentation, qualification, and ongoing lifecycle of signal products while ensuring customer, regulatory, and business requirements are effectively addressed. The position works cross-functionally with various departments, vendors, and customers to support product development, resolve technical issues, maintain product documentation, and facilitate successful product delivery and market acceptance.
Duties / Responsibilities
- Service as the primary technical and product resource for assigned signal products and provide support to internal departments, customers, and vendors.
- Review customer specifications, plans, drawings, and technical requirements to determine product compliance, configuration, and appropriate solutions.
- Provide technical guidance and product-related support to Manufacturing, Testing, Sales, Marketing, Planning, Material control, and other departments as required.
- Cross-functional activities involving product design, planning, manufacturing, testing, vendors, and customers to support successful product development and delivery.
- Support the Sales team by reviewing technical requirements, identifying appropriate products and configurations, and providing technical information necessary for quotations and customer proposals.
- Initiate and coordinate Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and other product change requests, including changes to drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and related documentation.
- Investigate and resolve product-related technical issues involving existing products, manufacturing, testing, field applications, and customer requirements.
- Maintain accurate and current product documentation, including specifications, drawings, bills of materials, technical data, compliance documentation, and related records.
- Cookordination with Engineering, Manufacturing, Material Control, Quality, and other appropriate departments regarding product requirements, changes, availability, and implementation.
- Prepare and submit product samples, technical documentation, compliance matrices, test information, and other required materials to state Department of Transportation (DOTs) and other agencies for inclusion and continued listing on Qualified Products Lists (QPLs), Approved Products Lists (APLs), or equivalent programs.
- Monitor applicable customer, agency, and industry requirements affecting assigned signal products and recommend product or documentation changes when appropriate.
- Support product testing, validation, qualification, and continuous improvement activities.
- Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, product reviews, and other activities requiring signal product expertise.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related engineering or technical discipline preferred.
- Two (2) or more years of relevant engineering, product management, traffic signal, transportation technology, manufacturing, or related experience preferred.
- Experience working with engineering products in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with the traffic signal, transportation, or Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) industry is a plus.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar CAD software preferred.
- Experience with SolidWorks, sheet-metal modeling, or similar design tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and bill-of-material creation and maintenance.
- Knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Ability to work from specifications, drawings, sketches, and verbal or written instructions.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and projects with minimal supervision.
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, engineers, manufacturing personnel, and employees at all organizational levels.

Physical Conditions / Requirements
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment with periodic work in engineering, testing, and manufacturing areas.
- Occasional – Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor.
- Job frequently requires sitting and handling objects with hands.
- Job occasionally requires standing, walking, bending, reaching, and handling products, components, or equipment.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds occasionally.
Vision Requirements
- Must be able to read and interpret printed and electronic documents, drawings, specifications, and technical information.
Hearing Requirements
- Ability to hear people over the telephone and in person; hear noises in surrounding areas, i.e., forklifts in the warehouse for safety purposes.
