About the role
Supervises and participates in the daily operations of the University Sign Shop, including the design, fabrication, installation, repair, and maintenance of interior and exterior signage across campus. Ensures compliance with university branding standards, ADA requirements, and safety regulations. Serves as a working supervisor providing technical guidance while coordinating signage requests and supporting campus departments.
Responsibilities
- Supervises sign shop staff, providing daily work directions, scheduling, training, and performance feedback.
- Assigns and monitors work orders for signage fabrication, installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Performs hands-on sign fabrication and installation, including vinyl application, printing, cutting, mounting, and assembly.
- Reviews signage requests to ensure compliance with university standards, ADA regulations, and safety requirements.
- Captures routine and moderately complex signage projects with campus departments and other trades.
- Develops material lists and assists in estimating costs and timelines for signage work.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, tools, and equipment; orders materials ensuring cost effectiveness and availability.
- Inspects completed work to ensure quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.
- Provides training and technical instruction to staff on equipment, fabrication techniques, and safety procedures.
- Affords support to management with budget tracking, supply management, and operational reporting.
- Supports campus events, moves, and special projects requiring signage setup or modifications.
- Ensures proper maintenance and safe operation of sign shop equipment and tools.
- Will coordinate work activities to support construction projects to include inspections of contractor work. This may include managing contractors that are providing signage support for the University.
- May be considered essential personnel and assigned to special task forces during emergencies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of directly job-related experience.
Qualifications
- Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level.
- Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
- Vocational or technical certification is preferred.
