Sign Language Interpreter

About the role

Birch Agency is seeking a qualified and experienced Educational Sign Language Interpreter to support students in grades 6-8 for the 2026-2027 school year in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. This is a full-time, in-person position offering the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' educational success and access to instruction.

Responsibilities

• Provide sign language interpreting services for middle school students (grades 6-8) throughout the school day.
• Facilitate effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their teachers, peers, and school staff.
• Interpret classroom instruction, school activities, meetings, and other educational interactions.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support student success.
• Maintain professional standards, confidentiality, and ethical practices.

Qualifications

• Educational Interpreter certification required.
• Previous school-based interpreting experience required.
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Commitment to supporting student access and inclusion within the educational environment.
