About the role
The purpose of this position is to oversee and perform the installation, maintenance, and fabrication of traffic signs and pavement markings along Town-maintained roads. The position reports to the Traffic Operations Coordinator and is designated as safety sensitive and driving essential.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate, design, repair, and install traffic signs and assemblies; apply pavement markings using latex paint and/or thermoplastic materials.
- Knowledge of installing signs and pavement markings in accordance with the Town’s sign ordinances and the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards.
- Set up and lead MUTCD-compliant, temporary work zones.
- Maintain latex printers, cutters, various hand tools, and other related equipment (roller brushers, hand torch).
- Provide the Traffic Operations Coordinator with information and data related to the installation of traffic control devices signs and pavement markings along Town-maintained roadways.
- Respond to various emails, phones calls, and resident inquiries about signs and markings related issues.
- Cover weekly staff schedules for maintenance and installation of traffic control devices, signs, pavement markings.
- Support the signal team to install rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFB) for mid crosswalks, as needed.
- Maintain records and supplies; research material costs; obtain price quotes; coordinate deliveries of materials; create work orders and assign tasks; maintain and edit daily log of field activities; respond to emails and phone calls.
- Manage inventory, obtain quotes for supplies/materials, manage material deliveries, create work orders, and quality review maintenance logs.
- Plan and conduct training for lower-level technicians on shop equipment and safety related items.
- Contribute to employee performance reviews and keep records of performance documentation.
- Schedule the Sign Shop team’s weekly work assignments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 3-4 years of progressive working experience in traffic signs and markings with practical field applications.
- Supervision experience or the ability to effectively lead a team.
- IMSA Signs and Markings Level II Certification.
- The ability to obtain IMSA Signs and Markings Level III Certification within 4-5 years.
