Shuttle Buggy Operator

Key Responsibilities

  • Must be able to run, maneuver, and drive the Shuttle Buggy.
  • Heavy equipment experience is a plus.
  • Inspects equipment before operating to make sure it is in good working order and ready for the day, including post shift inspection for the same.
  • Practices awareness of others working alongside the machines, and exercises safety practices at all times.
  • Safety is essential!
  • Perform general laborer duties associated with asphalt paving, patching, or prep crews.
  • Will be expected to leave the machine as required by foreman and job perimeters to help shovel, rake, and handle other tools and equipment.
  • May be called upon to run power tools.
  • Demonstrate coordination of function and possess the strength required to use all controls of the equipment on heavy equipment safely.
  • Able to remain stationary in the seat or operating area of the equipment for prolonged periods.
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials.
  • Aid in the placement, moving, and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices as needed.
  • Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment.
  • Strong oral communication skills to interact with other workers on the jobsite.
  • Perform other duties as requested and assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years' experience within the asphalt industry.
  • 1-2 years' experience of operating paving equipment.
  • Must be organized with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Must be positive, friendly, and professional.
  • Ability to work well with others in a group or one-on-one setting.
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.
  • Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas.
  • Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

  • Mid-Level Position
  • Working knowledge of asphalt production and associated equipment, and an understanding of operations and safety requirements is required.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
