Responsibilities

  • Applies all appropriate provisions of the disability contract to ensure that MetLife’s liability is understood and appropriately applied throughout the life of the claim.
  • Within the context of liability, encourages and supports return to work through a variety of programs and methodologies.
  • Proactively communicates with the claimant to set expectations, assess medical and non-medical barriers to return to work, and keep them fully aware of the status of the claim, including setting expectations if other resources (Vocational Rehabilitation, etc.) will be contacting them.
  • Partners with the claimant, specialty resources, and more experienced resources to ensure each claim has a well-understood plan tailored to the claimant’s unique situation, functional capacity, and prognosis for improvement.
  • Proactively updates partners working with the claimant when key events are being considered or have occurred (e.g., claim closure, return to work).
  • Manages an overall block of assigned claims, including prioritizing actions, appropriately utilizing resources, and making timely and accurate decisions.
  • Executes individual claim action plans, serves as the point of contact for the claimant, and makes claim decisions.
  • Provides a high level of service to the claimant, including delivering on commitments, timely return of phone calls, and clear communication.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A comprehensive understanding of disability contractual provisions, especially the definition of disability.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Critical-thinking, strategic-thinking, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback using specific measurements and observed behavior, as well as openness to receiving feedback.

Qualifications

New hires should live a commutable distance from the site the role is posted in: Tampa, FL or Bloomfield, CT.

  • Associate Degree (preferred).
  • 2+ years of claims management experience, preferably in the healthcare field (preferred).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word/Excel (preferred).
  • Expertise in systems and tools such as MDG, DPA, Intellis, and how to leverage them to improve claim management effectiveness (preferred).

Pay

The expected salary range for this position is $40,000 - $52,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
