Job Summary

The Shop Lead supports the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational readiness of company vehicles, trailers, tools, and equipment. This role serves as the lead technical resource for shop operations by coordinating preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, DOT compliance activities, and equipment inspections to ensure equipment remains safe, reliable, and compliant with OSHA, DOT, and company standards. The Shop Lead also supports shop organization, safe work practices, and equipment uptime in coordination with division leadership and field teams.

Education

- Highschool Diploma or equivalent - Valid driver’s license - DOT Medical Card preferred - CDL is preferred. Will hire non-CDL but must be willing to get CDL in 6 months after hire - Valid Forklift/telehandler/pallet jack certification preferred - Valid Man-lift/Aerial platform certification preferred - First Aid/CPR/AED Certification preferred, employer will provide training within 6 months of hiring or recertification as needed

Experience

- 3+ years of experience maintaining and repairing vehicles, heavy equipment, diesel equipment, or small engine/marine equipment preferred. - Experience troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems. - Welding and fabrication experience preferred. - Working knowledge of DOT compliance, preventative maintenance practices, and equipment inspection requirements. - Experience performing maintenance and repairs on fleet vehicles, trailers, and construction equipment. - Familiarity with low-voltage electrical troubleshooting and repair. - Experience using equipment maintenance or fleet management software preferred. - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose equipment issues and prioritize repairs effectively.

Responsibilities

- Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on company vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, diving equipment, and other gas/diesel-powered equipment in both shop and field environments. - Conduct hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, diesel, and mechanical repairs on generators, compressors, forklifts, work trucks, outboards, and related equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. - Lead and support local DOT compliance activities, including vehicle and driver compliance, annual DOT inspections, driver evaluations, employee training, and maintenance of required records and certifications. - Coordinate routine inspections, preventative maintenance schedules, equipment servicing, and inventory tracking to maximize fleet reliability and minimize downtime. - Maintain shop, yard, and service truck cleanliness, organization, and operational efficiency while promoting safe work practices and compliance with lock out/tag out procedures and regulatory requirements. - Serve as the division’s lead technical resource for equipment maintenance and repair needs, proactively communicating equipment status, repair priorities, and operational concerns to leadership and field teams. - Support and uphold company safety, quality, and equipment standards to ensure fleet and project equipment meet DOT and other regulatory agency requirements. - Maintain a clean driving record; CDL and current DOT medical card preferred - Will travel in limited fashion to support the Western Region Operations - Work is performed in the field and in all-weather condition - Regular lifting, stooping, bending, crawling, grasping, pinching, walking, standing - Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted and move/manipulate 20 lbs. unassisted
