Shop Crane Technician - Welding Experience
About the role
MGX Shop Crane Technicians are responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of various crane equipment including mobile cranes and boom trucks. This position is located at the Baton Rouge, LA branch for MGX Equipment Services and reports to the Service Manager.
Responsibilities
- Operate and perform thorough inspection of cranes in order to diagnose defects.
- Diagnose, repair and troubleshoot various mobile hydraulic and lattice cranes; repair hydraulic and electrical components.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
- Read, understand and interpret operating and parts manuals, blueprints and technical drawings.
- Test mechanical, electronic, electrical and hydraulic products and equipment after repair or modification to ensure proper operation and compliance with OEM specifications.
- Prepare for jobs by checking parts and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
- Perform thorough and accurate annual inspections.
- Properly fill out working reports, hours reports, time sheets, hours overviews and expense reports.
- Capable of accomplishing tasks independently without direct supervision.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a Crane Mechanic/Technician preferred.
- Experience working with different forms of mobile crane equipment, specifically Grove RT & TMS Cranes; Grove GMK European Cranes; Manitowoc EPIC and/or Traditional Cranes; National Boom Trucks preferred.
- Must be able to read both electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Welding experience with AWS D1.1 certification, or ability to obtain certification within 3-6 months after hire preferred.
- Must have excellent communication skills with a customer/client focus.
- Possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record preferred.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
- Required to purchase full set of hand tools up to 1.5 inches.
Qualifications
- Ability to work in an environment with exposure to elements such as extreme temperatures and various weather conditions, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
- Frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions
This is a full-time position with typical working hours between 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Overtime and weekend work may be possible based on business conditions.

Pay & Training
- This position offers a pay range between $20.00 - $35.00 per hour depending on skills and qualifications for non-bargaining employees.
- Pay is provided on a bi-weekly basis and there are 14 days in the pay period, beginning on a Monday and ending on a Sunday.
