Insteel Industries is the nation’s largest manufacturer of steel wire reinforcing products for concrete construction, including prestressed concrete strand and welded wire reinforcement such as engineered structural mesh and concrete pipe reinforcement.

About the role

Works daily to ensure assigned areas of responsibility operate with risk lowered to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) to achieve ZERO HARM—no injuries, illness, or negative impact to employees, property, the environment, or the community.

Responsibilities

  • Operate forklifts and/or overhead cranes to load, unload, and store materials safely and efficiently.
  • Manage inventory by monitoring levels, performing cycle counts, and resolving discrepancies.
  • Run reports (ship confirms, bills of lading, pick slips) and process intercompany transfers as requested by sales.
  • Inspect finished products for quality, stage materials, and support production as needed.
  • Train new employees, collaborate with production supervisors, and handle other shipping and production duties.
  • Maintain knowledge of safety equipment and procedures for shipping/receiving operations; ensure a clean and organized work area.
  • Perform inventory transfers in the computer system.
  • Move materials (raw materials, finished products, etc.) in shipping areas using electric, gas, propane, or diesel forklift tractors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete simple forms and understand written instructions.
  • Basic arithmetic skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals.
  • Minimum of 3 months of work-related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Forklift certification and overhead crane operation (in-house training provided as needed).

Skills

  • Ability to plan and prioritize setups, operations, and processes.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Physical Demands

  • Continuously (70-100%):
    • Use hands to feel, touch, grasp, or grip tools, objects, or handles.
    • Perform repetitive movements.
    • Lift, carry, push, or pull more than 60 pounds with mechanical assistance as needed.
    • Stand, walk, and move around.
    • Talk or hear (normal or corrected).
  • Frequently (30-70%):
    • Rotate body from a standing position.
    • Climb and balance.
  • Occasionally (Up to 30%):
    • Stretch, sit, or rotate body from a sitting position.

Vision Requirements

  • Near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, and peripheral vision.
  • Ability to work in dim or bright lighting conditions with frequent focus adjustments.
  • Use of mechanical controls: buttons, switches, knobs, levers, cranks, and pedals.

Equipment Used

  • Continuously (70-100%): Vehicles/heavy equipment such as forklift trucks.
  • Frequently (30-70%): Measuring devices such as scales (weight).
  • Occasionally (Up to 30%): Hand tools.

Schedule

11:00 AM – 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
