Pack and/or re-pack a wide variety of materials. Verify the condition code of items to ensure they meet release order requirements. Determine the type of pack required based on documents, military standards, DOD Manuals, and regulatory requirements (HAZNAT, RAD). Report to a designated Lead, Supervisor, or Manager.
Responsibilities
- Identify, examine, classify, accept, reject, and dispose of material as per DLA regulations.
- Ensure material is properly preserved, packaged, marked, and labeled in accordance with Military Standards before releasing to storage or shipping.
- Select proper size container and cushioning from available stock to protect against damage.
- Conduct basic inspection and examination procedures for material.
- Read specifications and photographs as required in DLA contracts.
- Operate Material Handling Equipment (MHE) to load/unload material on skids, pallets, stands, and vehicles.
- Receive and input data to DSS and other automated systems; prepare basic reports.
- Count, weigh, record data, and prepare/apply tags/labels.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum three (3) months of general work experience demonstrating ability to perform position requirements.
- High school diploma or GED required; may substitute one year of general experience for one year of high school.
- Must obtain MHE license within 30 days of selection.
- HAZMAT Certification required for processing hazardous materials; must pass training requirements.
- Position may require travel and the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
Work Environment
- Shop environment with hazardous equipment, moving MHE, obstacles, and high activity volume.
- Must lift and carry up to 45 pounds for short distances; stoop, bend, kneel, walk, and have full dexterity with correctable vision.
- Frequent outside work in hot, cold, or wet weather.
- Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and loud noise; protective devices required.
Pay
Hourly rate: $20.92. This position falls under the Service Contract Act (SCA), including additional health and welfare payments per hour worked to meet SCA minimums.
