Shipping Material Handler

About the Role

This is a 1st shift Shipping Material Handler position located in Crowley, TX. The role offers a competitive base salary and benefits, with an opportunity to join a growing company that values growth, diversity, inclusion, sustainability, and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Scan material as it is moved from one location to another for proper inventory tracking.
  • Operate a forklift or other machinery to complete tasks.
  • Use common shop tools, such as calipers, tape measure, and calculator.
  • Determine the method of shipment by examining items to be shipped, destination, route, rate, and time of shipment; work with customs broker freight forwarder.
  • Build appropriate shipping crates for shipping by road, sea, or air; prepare shipments by assembling, packing, and loading; install protective devices to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
  • Enter addresses and shipment details into the computer system and label all shipments.
  • Inspect material for defects and damage.
  • Complete RMA and work with Quality to resolve issues with the vendor.
  • Complete any pertinent customs paperwork for international shipments.
  • Maintain accurate inventory by correctly completing issue and receipt tickets.
  • Contribute to the department's continuous improvement culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Computer data entry proficiency.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Commitment to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to read and comprehend manufacturing documents related to the job and all safety notifications.
  • Ability to work in a non-controlled work environment.
  • Reliable worker with good work references, including a solid attendance history.
  • Must work required overtime, including weekends, during times of increased business.

Other skill sets and work histories can be considered, and on-the-job training will be provided as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of shipping practices of UPS, FedEx, and local trucking companies.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting of up to 50 pounds repeatedly during the day.
  • Standing or walking in the work area for most of the day.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to pick, feel, and/or inspect material.
  • Reaching with arms and hands as needed.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to talk or hear.

Role is deemed safety sensitive and may be subject to employer or customer drug testing.

Schedule

4-day, 10-hour shift: Tuesday–Friday, 6:00 AM–4:45 PM.
