About the role

The Shipping/Receiving Clerk supports the efficient flow of materials, products, and information through the shipping and receiving process. This role ensures accurate receipt, processing, documentation, and movement of inbound and outbound shipments for domestic and export operations. The clerk works closely with internal departments, carriers, vendors, and customers to maintain inventory accuracy, support production and order fulfillment, resolve shipment discrepancies, and ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective transportation and warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

  • Process and coordinate domestic, export, and return shipments in accordance with customer, carrier, and company requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and distribute shipping documentation, including shipping orders, labels, manifests, CBOLs, export paperwork, and related records.
  • Utilize ERP and other logistics systems to release, print, update, close, and track orders, transfers, receipts, and shipment activity.
  • Verify inbound and outbound material against packing slips, purchase orders, and system transactions to ensure accuracy and timely processing.
  • Receive, inspect, and record incoming materials; identify discrepancies, shortages, damages, and packing slip issues, and communicate concerns to appropriate teams.
  • Coordinate pickup and delivery schedules with carriers, freight forwarders, internal departments, and external customers to support on-time shipments and receipts.
  • Manage trailer, dock, yard, shuttle, and container activity, including scheduling moves, assigning dock doors, updating yard management systems, and supporting storage needs.
  • Support cross-dock, consolidation, transfer, and rework activities to ensure efficient material flow between warehouse, production, and shipping locations.
  • Provide tracking information, shipment status updates, and documentation to internal stakeholders, customers, and vendors in a timely and professional manner.
  • Process freight returns, RMAs, reconsignments, short receipts, damaged shipments, and other OS&D-related issues, coordinating follow-up actions as needed.
  • Assist with inventory-related transactions and corrections, including cycle counts, negative inventory adjustments, missing material research, and receipt discrepancies.
  • Coordinate special shipping requirements such as truckload, LTL, air, container, export, and hot shot shipments, ensuring compliance with applicable procedures.
  • Maintain accurate shipping and receiving files, retention records, and work instructions in support of reporting, audit readiness, and continuous improvement.
  • Order and manage shipping/receiving supplies and support general dock and warehouse organization, housekeeping, and safety communication.
  • Collaborate with Customer Service, Planning, Buyers, Accounts Payable, Warehouse Operations, Production, and other departments to resolve shipment and receipt issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of warehouse, shipping, receiving, or related logistics experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Excel.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and effectively use ERP and other logistics-related systems.
  • Working knowledge of warehouse safety practices and OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to work flexible or extended hours as needed, including evenings, weekends, and overtime.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
