Job Summary

The Shipping and Receiving Associate at TrafFix Devices is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely receipt and shipment of products. This includes inspecting and verifying incoming shipments, updating inventory records, preparing documentation, and collaborating with other warehouse staff and departments.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures receipt and unloading of incoming shipments of materials, supplies, parts, and products.
  • Inspects and verifies the accuracy of incoming shipments against purchase orders, invoices, and other documentation.
  • Counts and tracks received items, updates inventory records, investigates and resolves discrepancies.
  • Putaways incoming materials, maintains inventory accuracy, performs cycle counts.
  • Prepares bills of lading and corroborates orders to ascertain quantities, destination, and routing.
  • Safeguards shipping items to meet packing standards and requirements, documenting the process using photographs.
  • Collaborates with other warehouse staff and departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of materials and products, including loading of trucks.
  • Uses hand scanners and computer software and systems to record and track shipments and inventory data.
  • Operates material handling equipment, such as forklifts and pallet jacks, to move and stack items in the warehouse.

General Functions

  • Collaborates with other members of the production team to ensure that deadlines are met and products are delivered on time.
  • Consistently abides by established safety rules, procedures, and regulations, including wearing required safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Identifies and reports quality or safety issues to supervisor or manager.
  • Works effectively with co-workers and supervisors, sharing knowledge, resources, and experience to achieve production goals in a timely fashion, while promoting respect, communication, and teamwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Attention to detail: Ability to accurately inspect and verify incoming shipments and record inventory data.
    • Time management skills: Ability to work efficiently and prioritize tasks to ensure timely and accurate receipt and processing of incoming shipments.
    • Communication skills: Good verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with other warehouse personnel, as well as vendors and other departments.
    • Organizational skills: Ability to keep track of inventory levels, discrepancies, and system updates in an organized and systematic manner.
    • Computer skills: Familiarity with computer systems and software, such as Microsoft Office and inventory management software.
    • Basic math skills: Basic arithmetic skills for accurately counting inventory and ensuring that quantities are recorded correctly.
    • Attention to safety: Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines when using equipment to maintain a safe work environment.
    • Follow directions: Ability to follow established procedures while performing tasks, using tools, and handling materials.
    • Dependability: Reliability and consistency of attendance, punctuality, and completion of assigned tasks according to established standards and expectations with little supervision.
  • Preferred Education and Experience:
    • A high school diploma/GED, or equivalent work experience.
    • At least one year of previous experience in a warehouse environment.
    • Experience with inventory management using computer systems equivalent to SysPro.
    • Previous experience operating forklifts or other powered industrial trucks.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Physical dexterity: Bending, twisting, reaching while handling tools and equipment; standing, walking, using hands to handle and feel, and hearing.
  • Lifting: Lifting and moving boxes weighing up to 50 lbs on a regular basis, and boxes weighing up to 80 lbs occasionally, with the help of other employees.
  • Vision: Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Endurance: Standing for extended periods of time and performing physical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exposure to elements: Exposure to varying temperatures and inclement weather conditions; frequent exposure to dirt and dust.
  • Noise level: Moderate noise levels in the workplace for the majority of the day, due to the constant use of forklift and hand-held power tools.
