Shift Technical Operator
TAMKO is seeking a Shift Technical Operator for our Rangeline Facility in Joplin, Missouri. This position will alternate weeks with the Lead Shift Technical Operator to operate the machine and requires a high level of flexibility, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to operate all equipment and positions on the line.
About the role
This person will be utilized as additional manpower in all areas and assist maintenance personnel on assigned projects. Responsibilities include troubleshooting process problems, conducting process checks, and assisting with maintenance activities. Housekeeping and preventive maintenance duties are also required. The role may be assigned to any crew or shift as needed.
Responsibilities
- Operate the Glass Plant Mat machine including HMI controls, fiber feed, winder, and roll handling.
- Perform and document all necessary finished product quality and control tests.
- Maintain and monitor all laboratory weighing and control equipment.
- Analyze the process using information from the weight monitoring and control unit.
- Maintain records of analysis and enter raw material usage into the computer.
- Assist with control of water chemistry.
- Operate forklift and transport materials.
- Maintain hoppers to ensure they have glass; open fiberglass boxes and place on conveyors.
- Bundle bags, stack empty totes and boxes, and load as needed.
- Blow down hoppers, clean chains and sprockets, and clean lab, winder, roll handling, and fiber feed areas.
- Check scales for the amount of fibers in hoppers and load trucks from the line.
- Monitor dispersant, defoamer addition, and viscosity modifier mixing and addition.
- Use proper lockout, confined space, and PPE procedures when required.
- Ship product via SAP.
- Work a rotating shift schedule and overtime hours as needed.
- Assist with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
- Participate in plant clean-up days and special projects (e.g., research and development, quality improvement).
- Assist in wire changes and refinery operations as needed.
- Run the rewinder as needed.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Mechanical experience and/or training preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
The role involves operating, inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy plant equipment. Physical demands include:
- Climbing stairs/ladders, bending, kneeling, crawling, squatting, and stooping.
- Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds, occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifting or moving heavier objects with assistance.
- Working around moving mechanical parts, elevated heights, dusts, fumes, chemicals, hot environments, electrical equipment, and loud noise.
- Following all prescribed safety rules and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
